New pilots who feel the should perhaps follow the advice of pilots like Adrian Thomas PHD, should be aware that according to what he has posted on newsgroups he thinks that it is Ok to fly near CB's..... which according to the senior ATC controller at one of our local airfields has resulted in a max wind speed gust of NINETY Kts! Adrian has been in the forefront of those who attack what I am working to achieve, that is see a major drop in PG accident rates by correcting errors in what is commonly taught. Never forget the theory & practices that have generated years of accidents all go back to a few simple, honestly made errors. Lets just hope not to many new pilots are stupid enough to follow his advice to the inevitable consequences!

The following photographs are titled "Good launches" in an article by a BHPA pilot, some of which were published in Skywings........ I would hate to think any of my students would be as incompetent as to regard the illustrated standard as being good!

First picture shows a very low standard with the left wing 'frontal' and the pilot dragging the wing down the hill, the second picture in many ways is even worse with the wing 'power stalled' as the pilot dragging the wing keeps it fully stalled.

Picture three shows excessive brake delaying the lift off and increasing stall risk, pic. four shows the wing badly 'power stalled' and it looks like it could be close to going frontal on the right wing.

Pic five displays all the bad habits seen in pic. four, pic six again shows the problems & risks with excessive brakes applied as the pilot drags the wing down hill also having the hands down AND wide shows very poor training standard!
