Please bare in mind those that heap abuse on me are the ones whose standards are generating all the accidents. We welcome those thinking of getting into the sport to come out and see for themselves how with the correct aviation approach paragliding can be safe activity to participate in.

If you think a death rate of one in a thousand is OK and the example of 'trained' pilots with less than five hours airtime in two years flying represents a good standard your choice will be to take your chances and undertake 'normal' training!

NB please remember some mainstream PG schools do (despite the major errors in the theory used) turn out safe pilots unfortunately far too often I meet CP rated pilots who while 'rated' clearly are not in any acceptable sense competent!

Those CHOOSING to re-train often start by simply to come out and see our standard, we have plenty of videos/DVD's of 'normal' paragliding that you can look at and use to compare standards.

It's easy to work out who has the safest approach. Hint: it is not those that are having all the accidents!

We have a deliberate policy of not erasing the type of abusive and often libellous comments some members of the BHPA post on our websites/guest books, instead leaving them up to let others make up their own minds as to whether they can learn from 'History' that is the deaths of other pilots or merely repeat the same mistakes.

So here is one from Brian Steele.

When reading his comments it is worth remembering the following points:

Landowners: Those involved with Brian sent a letter out to all the pilots in Scotland stating because of my flying 'without asking permission' at one site, stating that ALL pilots were now banned from that site... this resulted in the organisation who DO manage the site phoning me to APOLOGISE for the contents of the letter (they were sent a copy) they stated that they had not said ANYTHING that had been attributed to them in the letter (no surprise to me as the person speaking to me had actually done some training with me!), in addition I was in fact flying at that site at the specific invitation of... one of the landowners and the other person flying with me worked for him!

On the subject of 'Local Helicopter company' what can be said? Well WHAT helicopter company! (there are no local helicopter companies just Brian's vivid imagination!

And Dundee ATC? Well guess what, I am the issuing authority in the UK for ICAO radio callsigns for Scottish paraglider pilots and unlike Brian and Co. we do NOT break the ANO etc. by using illegal radio and our club has the only PG pilots permitted to fly in the ATZ of Dundee airport which we have also visited (by invitation) a number of times!

While Brian may be popular among the 'normal' PG pilots he fly's with a growing number of pilots know exactly what to think of him and his friends.

I cannot take your organisation seriously if Murray Hay and his compadres have anything to do with it.

Yours, a scottish pilot who feels no need to brag about 1,000s of hours or to brag about having 50 sites (Despite the relevant landowners spitting feathers and saying "That bast*d didnt ask permission to fly"). We don't mind Murray flying about, but don't like his long held grudge against the BHPA and his "I know better than thou" attitude/ lack of airmanship. He has even hacked off other air users including Dundee airport and a local helicopter company.

  Time as always will tell.

With more pilots training or in the case of 'qualified' (UK pilots CAN NOT qualify as no licence exists, instead their sporting body issues a 'rating') pilots re-training with us and the closure of many schools due to the results of UK accident rates (everyone has some accidents due to human nature but most in our opinion and clearly that of the insurance companies could have been avoided that is they were not 'accidents' but the result of training) we will see what the effect of the recent (Sept 1st) 'wake up call' will be.

Hopefully the good instructors and schools within the UK will remain open as some training is clearly better than none and with a more questioning approach nation wide we may finally see a change to an 'aviation based training' using text books written by those who understand what actually happens rather than based on old misconceptions used in paragliding books, if in doubt ask yourself if your instructor insists that you question everything OR do they tell you instead to accept without question (and understanding) what they preach.

In the end it is your life that is on the line.

On a brighter note this from some pilots who still may not fully agree with some of my points but...
