'SIV Non Event' This clip shows
the very high standard of flying control especially in rough air, no simulation
required ?.
If you are fed up having (or reading about pilots
who trained to the same standard as you did!) 'unxepected' collapses/near misses
etc. and seen in LOTS of accident reports, perhaps it is time you booked a PG
clinic with murray 'fotoglider' at
PPC.
This clip shows murray (filming a safety segment)
taking off at a location where in that days conditions a 'incident' is just
about 100% guaranteed, the video goes from talking about the conditions to the
flight x-wind to run down wind, on the x-wind beat the Vertex 24 G-BZVI gets (as
expected) approx 50% collapse on the left wing, the only evidence of this is the
left riser folding in, keeping the glider flying straight mainly by weight shift
murray adds just enough break to stop a turn developing (would result in a
spiral into the hill side!) without over controlling and stalling the half
flying. With a stable situation a quick glance at the wing to catch it on
video shows part still folded but recovering, as normal NO 'PUMPING' lets the
wing nicely recover...
Hence the title 'Non Event'!
Video clip with slow motion replay of collapse segment (plays at 30% speed); Video running time 6:21

'Short cut' This clip shows
the very high standard of control especially in ground handling.
Whirly Kips (yes that is it's name!) flying site; Video running time 7:17
unedited (this shows it was all one 'flight!) or a edited version 4:22
full version with slow motion replay (30% speed) of time with wing folded.

'Pull Up' This clip shows
the standard of control at PPC in 'pull up' and 'taxi', using the wing to jog up
the side of a Normans Law in very punchy thermic conditions.
